In recent years, Kortrijk has worked on facilitating a group of volunteers who organize a monthly rainbow café. Over the past year, we have aimed to give them more autonomy and ownership of the organization. The rainbow café primarily consists of middle-aged individuals, highlighting the need for a space for young LGBTQIA+ people. Therefore, over the last year, we focused on supporting young queers with ideas for creating spaces for these communities. As a result, there are now two new queer organizations focused on young people and students. The prime moment of this year for several organizations was during the major city event in May. Several LGBTQIA+ minded organizations joined forces to organize an event for and by LGBTQIA+ people. The diversity of people, age and culture was a spectacle. As a city we facilitated this cooperation and fueled the people with information about Safer Spaces.
