On Nov 1st, 2024 a self-determination law will be introduced in Germany. Following its introduction, trans*, inter* and non-binary people (TIN) will be able to choose their first name/ gender entry at the local registry office in a self-determined manner. The registry office in Frankfurt has set up a working group to prepare for this. The Coordination Unit for LGBTIQ was able to conduct an awareness-raising workshop for the employees of the working group. Topics included the life situations and experiences of discrimination of TIN people, the history of the Self-Determination Act and, above all, how to address people in a discrimination- and gender-sensitive manner. The measure is an example of the work of the coordination office in the administration with the aim of expanding and strengthening the queer-sensitive skills of employees in the city of Frankfurt.
