City of Helsinki Sports Services and Youth Services have joined forces to provide LGBTIQ-friendly sports groups and opportunities for young people belonging to LGBTIQ minorities as they may face physical and social obstacles in accessing regular sports services. The co-operation has included e.g. skateboarding in the summer. In autumn 2024, there will be a regular monthly time slot for LGBTIQ-friendly sports in Ruoholahti area. The goal is to provide a safe and inviting environment for LGBTIQ youth to engage in sports, and activities are tailored to meet the participants’ needs and interests. There are plans to extend LGBTIQ-friendly sports activities to other areas of Helsinki as well.
