Since the beginning of 2023, over 600 people in Bruges have received bystander intervention training. In these trainings, participants acquire the skills to respond to inappropriate behavior or discrimination. They learn how to intervene and practice these techniques during training sessions. The City of Bruges organizes these trainings in open sessions for interested residents around thematic days such as IDAHOBIT (International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism and Transphobia) and the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, or for specific target groups such as schools, companies, and organizations. In the autumn of 2024, eight staff members will undergo train-the-trainer training to be able to actively meet the continued demand in the future given the high interest. People are activated and encouraged to take active steps against discrimination and inappropriate behavior.
