In May 2024, a first get-to-know-you workshop for members of Mannheim’s queer community and police employees took place at Mannheim Police Headquarters as part of the municipal field of action “Queer Safety”. The exchange was largely conceived by the Queer Center Mannheim in cooperation with the prevention department of the police.

The aim of this event was to reduce the queer community’s fear of contact with the police and build trust, as well as to give police officers confidence in dealing with the queer community. The evening began with a so-called “speed chatting” session, followed by a tour of the command and situation center.

In recent times, the queer community has repeatedly voiced that not only do their members not feel safe in public, but that the inhibition threshold for reporting an assault to the police is also very high. This first workshop was intended to counteract this situation.
