Pride Month is the month of June in which the concerns of LGBTI*Q people take center stage and are made visible, and which is celebrated in Giessen with a demonstration and street festival to mark Christopher Street Day.
The city administration opened Pride Month with a special day of action on June 4: After the opening of the #prideshelf in the city library, the Lord Mayor, together with representatives of CSD Mittelhessen e.V., raised the rainbow flag at the town hall and then opened the exhibition “I’ve always felt special” on the everyday lives of lesbian, gay and trans people in old age in the atrium of the town hall. At the opening, the Lord Mayor was joined by some of the contributors and a trans woman who is active in a group of older trans and intersex people. The exhibition was on display in the public area of the town hall for over a month.
The CSD on the following Saturday was opened by the Lord Mayor and the Office for Women and Equality was represented with a stand at the street festival.
