LGBTI Policy Guidelines

This project aims to develop activities that align with the 2020 multi-annual priorities promoting mutual understanding and tolerance towards the LGBTI minority as a part of the dynamic and multi-faceted European identity. The purpose of this project is to foster active citizenship in understanding the richness of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersexual, and Queer citizens and contribute to the visibility, respect, and tolerance towards the LGBTI minority.

Additionally, we want to highlight the positive impact that the LGBTI communities have in our European society. The project’s participants will draft, discuss, publish, and transfer the policy guidelines based on their experience with exchanging best practices for the last eight years, first as an informal network and later as a registered organization.

The 19 member cities that will participate actively creating policies that benefit LGBTI citizens in their respective cities. We already share our best practices during our annual meeting, however, with this project we aim to:

1. Develop the first policy guidelines for European cities that do not yet have LGBTI policies in place.

2. Have guidelines with an intersectional approach, considering race, sexual orientation, identity, gender, income, and social class, including refugees, BIPOC, migrants, and handicapped people.

3. Deepen intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding.

4. Construct counter-narratives against the stigmatization of LGBTI’s.

5. Create a set of tools to oppose homophobic propaganda.

As a consequence of this exercise, we will foster our collaboration and create the first guidelines on how to create an LGBTI policy for cities that do not yet have such a policy in place.
